Well, it's a big day here, in the Vincent household: I put the very last stitches in my Life is Beautiful quilt. I'm sorry the picture isn't as good as it could be but it's early evening here and the sun is shining into my sewing room. I couldn't wait till tomorrow morning to get a better picture. Daft really, it's taken me donkeys years to get this far so one more day shouldn't matter. But hey! I always was impetuous. Actually, I've just noticed, I've left a couple of pins in it. They'll have to come out. I'm not sure yet where it's going to live. We haven't really got any spare walls left in our house. It might, horror of horrors, end up being another cupboard dweller. Ah well. I've really enjoyed making it, that's the main thing and now I can start planning my next project. Time to start looking through books and visiting quilt shops. Excellent. I'll let you know what I come up with. See you soon.

I'm making a start on finishing my "Life is beautiful" quilt. I finished the top a few weeks ago - finally and now, after a break to make sure I got some other things ready for deadlines, I'm starting to quilt it. Could this mean the end is in sight? Don't hold your breath. It's turned into one of those projects that gets put to one side whenever anything else becomes "more pressing" I'm sure everyone has one of those sort of projects, right? Or am I the only one in the whole world? I do hope not. That would be weird. Anyway, here it is. I'll let you see the end result - however long it takes!
Well, I seem to be going through a period of "finishing off" things. That has to happen from time to time, I suppose. I've been making this elephant as a present for a friend of mine. I wanted it to look happy, bright and jolly. Well, it's definitely bright and it makes me happy when I look at it, so that's a success then! I made it from a pattern by Windham fabrics, called Paisley Splash. I used Kaffe Fasset materials. It was lovely to make, I really enjoyed doing it. I might have to think of someone else who desperately needs an elephant as a present, then I can do another one. For now though, I've got a couple of baby quilt orders to start so I'm off to start planning...
I've finally finished my "life is beautiful" quilt! Well, the top at least. It's not been one of my quickest projects: I think I started it about 5 or 6 years ago. Paul bought me the pattern as a birthday present. It was designed by Helen Stubbings. I thought it would be a nice project to take along to my quilting group every Tuesday. I've really enjoyed making it. The little stitchery panels are so cute. I underestimated how hard it would be to make the circles actually look like circles. In fact, now I look at this picture, I can see a few wobbly bits. So please don't look too closely. I have to decide how to quilt it and finish it off now. I hope that doesn't take another ten years or so..
I finished the cups and saucers quilt that I've been making for the coffee room at Church. A couple of weeks ago, we had an unveiling ceremony. I think it looks good in the room. It matches the carpet and the furniture that is in there. I couldn't really get a better photo of it, without showing lots of people and I'm not sure if that's allowed, so I thought "better not" . I might nip in one day when no one else is there and take a better picture, but for now... well, you get the idea.
I know, it's been ages since I was here. I'm sorry about that. I haven't been doing nothing while I was away. We've been away on holiday to Japan. I've never been before and I've always wanted to go. We had an amazing time. Some of the things we saw were breathtaking. We were there at the right time to see the cherry blossom in flower, which was beautiful and we saw some lovely gardens and parks. I could go on and on and on, but I'll spare you.
Anyway, since we got back, I've been working on a wall hanging for the coffee room in my church. I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. I hope they like it. I've finally finished my Dutch houses quilt! Well, it still needs a wash before it's completely finished but I couldn't wait to show you. The pattern is called Little Amsterdam. I started making it years ago. It involved lots of days out to different quilt shops to "collect" lots of different blue and cream material. A tough job I know, but it had to be done. I really enjoyed making it, but it's reminded me why I spend most of my time making baby quilts - they're finished so much sooner! Now I just have to find somewhere big enough to put it.
Remember this one? I started it a while ago now. My hunter's star experiment. I think it's turned out really nicely. I like the way the quilting has turned out too. I can see I might have to do more experimenting. It's good fun and the results are nice to see too.
Well, this week, there's been a lethal combination: me having a tidy up and me wanting, for ages, to try out something new. Let me explain. I didn't have any outstanding orders to work on, so I thought I'd use my time wisely(!) and tidy up my sewing room. The actual space I've got to work on has gradually been getting smaller and smaller, so a good tidy up was well overdue. Well, it all started off OK. Just imagine the picture - me making various piles of things everywhere that need to be sorted out. That's all well and good, but then I have to keep stopping to look at a pattern I haven't seen for ages and stroke some material that was hiding in a cupboard. You get the idea right? Anyway, I came across a pile of flannel squares that I'd cut out ages ago and it reminded me that I've been wanting to make a rag quilt for the longest time. So, the piles of stuff got pushed away to one side to be dealt with later, and I got on with my new project. I've never made anything like it before, so it was good fun. The trouble is, I don't think I like it. It's finished, so it won't be hanging around in the "do something with this" section but I don't think I'll be making another one. At least I know now. I'm not sure why I don't like it. It's very soft and fluffy but maybe it's just too different to what I usually do. I must be a creature of habit. But at least I've used up a pile of squares that didn't have a home so it's not all bad. Now, to get back to tidying my sewing room...
