Well, I had lots of fun, playing about with all those colours and this is what it's turned into. It's a pattern from Brigitte Heitland from Zen Chic. Her patterns are wonderful. I enjoyed making this one, especially as it's for a very special new baby. I know, they're all very special but this is very special to us. It's our new grandson. We gave the quilt to him, or rather his parents , yesterday and they loved it. I feel like a little happy dance might be on the cards.

And then some! Well, that's what it feels like. I'm making a start on my next baby quilt. I don't have such a tight deadline on this one as I did on the last one so I can take my time a bit. I'm enjoying playing with all these colours. It's going to be a very happy quilt. Watch this space...
Well, admittedly it's not the best photo I've ever taken but I hope you get the idea. I finished the latest quilt I was working on. I had to get a wiggle on: it was needed for a baby shower in the middle of August. I managed to get it finished with some time to spare. I'm pleased with how it's turned out. It looks like a happy quilt. My daughter in law took it to her cousin's baby shower at the weekend and it went down a treat. That's always good to hear.
I'm back to making baby quilts now. Back to my happy place. My daughter in law got in touch a few days ago to ask if I could have a baby quilt ready for the middle of August. Well, I'm ever up for a challenge so here goes. I got the fabric together (the last few colours today) so, guess what I'll be doing this weekend? I'm looking forward to this...
Yes, I'm still here. I know it's been a disgustingly long time since I wrote anything but I am most definitely, still here. I've been keeping myself busy, making quilts, trying out new things and generally making a mess round the house. Usually with an end goal in mind but sometimes, just to have a play. And having the grandbabies round every week certainly helps. They love to join in with the mess making! At the weekend, a friend came round to collect the quilt I'd made for her. It was something new for me: She asked me if I could make a memory quilt from her dog's old blankets. I've never done anything like that before so I didn't promise anything more than I'd give it a go. Well, it was definitely different, working with all those different fabrics and fluffy stuff but I think I made a fair job of it. My friend was very pleased when she saw it, so that's the main thing, isn't it? Now though, it's back to things I'm more used to - baby quilts! I'll keep you posted....
Well, I made the quilt. I finished it quite a while ago to be honest. It was for a new baby though and she has only just been born so the quilt was waiting around for quite a while. It's been handed over now though and the parents are very happy with it. I got a photo! I love it when that happens. I'm pleased with how the quilt turned out. I had to order the fabric online because everything was closed (Covid! Remember that?) I'm always a bit nervous doing that because there's no way of telling how true the colours are on the website. I got lucky this time though, so thankyou De Quilterie in Zeeland. A big thumbs up! The pattern is called Grand Beach. It was lovely to make. I really enjoyed it.
Another new beginning. I love it when all the material I've ordered for my next quilt arrives. It feels like Christmas! After I'd done the happy dance and stroked it all for a good while, I washed it. That's always really hard for me to do: I just want to dive right in and start making. But.. I've been good and I'm typing this along to the dulcet(!) sounds of the washing machine giving everything a nice bath. It's going to be a new baby quilt. I'm using material from the Makower linnen look range. It's beautiful. The colours are so soft. I ordered it all online from a shop called de quilterie. As usual, a fantastic service. I only ordered it a couple of days ago and it arrived today. It probably would have been even quicker if yesterday hadn't been a bank holiday. I'll let you know how my quilt progresses.
So, then there were three. Just a bit over a year ago, we didn't have any grandchildren and now we have three. The newest, our grandson was born about a week ago. I made this quilt for him. It's a pattern called Shimmering triangles, by Jenny Bowker. I really enjoyed making it. The pattern is wonderfully well written. It makes it so straightforward to follow. I also got plenty of encouragement and help from Jenny and lots of other people in her facebook page. I will definitely have a go at another one in the future.
Well, I'm back to quilting again. That didn't take long did it? I'm definitely going to be making more baby clothes but just for now, I made two little quilts for covering up teeny tiny legs when we go out for a walk with the buggy. I've had these two patterns for ages, with every good intention to make proper quilts from them. But hey, I'm sure you know how that goes. Anyway, I've used them now. I only needed small quilts ( about 50 cm square) for in the baby buggy so I thought one of each animal in the corner of each quilt would be perfect. They're patterns from Elizabeth Hartman. I really enjoyed making them. The hedgehog and the fox's head went together really easily and the pattern was so clear and easy to follow. I'll definitely be looking out for more of her patterns. I can't wait till I get to babysit again, then I can try them out.
It's been a very very long time since I made any children's clothes. I used to make most of the clothes for my boys but there came a time when they didn't want Mum-made clothes any more, which is how I first got into quilt making. So, every cloud and all that.. Anyway, now I've got Grandchildren, I think it's alright to start making clothes again. I made these two little dresses over the weekend, with some leggings to go with them. They're so tiny! I had a lovely time making them. I think I might have to have a rummage through all my old patterns. I can see fun times ahead.
