I thought I'd have a go at something completely different and see how I got on. I borrowed a book from the quilters guild library a while ago, about "freehand patchwork". I'm always one to follow the pattern exactly, so I thought it would be nice to see what it's like not to have a pattern. This is what I came up with. The pictures in the book look much more free and spontaneous than how mine's turned out. Probably because I drew a pattern for each letter. I know I know. That's not how it's supposed to be. But even as I was doing this, I was almost hyperventilating. The letters aren't the same size!! This is a big step for me. I really enjoyed doing it though and I'll definitely make more. Who knows, maybe one day I'll make a whole big quilt without any sort of pattern. Till then, I'm quite pleased with myself for going outside the box.
